Music videos are an important part of the creative industry. In order to become an expert practitioner you must first investigate different forms of music video and professional production techniques. In this project you will be creating your own music video and experimenting with new practical skills.

• Evidence at least 2 examples of performance music videos. Critique how effectively the music video engages an audience. Analyse the effectiveness of the cinematography and editing techniques.

• Write a review of your research. Discuss what you have learnt about the different styles of music video production and choose the preferred style you wish to create yourself. You will be selecting one style of music video for your practical. Discuss any early ideas you may have and how you could achieve them.

Find a professional in the music video industry linked to this role and discuss their tasks and responsibilities. For example, Chris Cunningham is an abstract music video director. Cole Bennett is a contemporary music video director. Many film directors have also created music videos. For example, Edgar Wright, Martin Scorsese, Tim Burton, Spike Jonze, Sofia Coppola, and many more. 

 

Choose a practical element from their work and experiment with this technique yourself. Post the example you have found with your attempt alongside. For example, a cinematographer may choose to look at selection of their favourite frames and attempt the composition themselves. A set designer may use props to create an interesting location to shoot. Evidence this practical piece with a reflection discussing what you have learnt and how you may develop these skills further.
